Jack R Barckhoff, P.E., the Founder and CEO of Barckhoff
Welding Management has assembled the most experienced team of managerial and
technical welding talent in the industry. Every member of the team has held responsible managerial
and/or technical positions in industry where their focus has been on welding and
welding management. All technical team members hold engineering and/or welding
engineering degrees and have experience in a broad range of welding disciplines
from design and processing through quality assurance. Most are registered
professional engineers. Key team members are listed below with others available
to fit unique welding or management needs.
Jack R Barckhoff, P.E.- Founder and CEO
Jack
has been involved in the welding industry for over forty years. He studied
both Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration at The Ohio State
University before beginning his career as a sales engineer of welding equipment
and consumables. It was on the shop floor working with welders that Jack
developed his passion for the welder and helping improve welding quality and
productivity. To pursue his passion he went on to found Barckhoff Welding
Management and dedicate his life to helping the welding industry improve through
implementing his Total Welding Management System.
Over
the past thirty years Jack and his team have helped hundreds of companies
improve their welding operations. He is an industry recognized expert on
welding management and has recently written a book titled Total Welding
Management published by the American Welding Society and has published numerous
articles and lectured to thousands on the management of welding. A member
of the Board of Trustees for the American Welding Society Foundation, Jack has
established the “Jack R Barckhoff Welding Management Scholarship”, which is
awarded to college students pursuing a career in welding engineering. In
2004, Jack was selected as “Counselor” of the American Welding Society, of
which he is a lifetime member. He also received the American Welding Society’s
District Meritorious Award and served as local Section Chairman.
Edward R. Bohnart - Welding Consultant & Trainer

Ed has over thirty five years of
experience in the welding industry including over twenty years of experience
with one of the worlds leading manufacturers of arc welding equipment. He is a
graduate of the Nebraska Vocational Technical College in welding and metallurgy
and has studied at both the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University
of Omaha. Ed was National AWS President in 1995-1996
and served on the Board of Directors for AWS for over a decade.
Ed is an American Welding Society (AWS) Senior Certified Welding
Inspector, Certified Welding Supervisor, Certified Welding Educator, Certified
Robotic Arc Welding-Technician, and former AWS Certified Welder. Ed chaired the
AWS C5 committee on Arc Welding and Cutting Processes and served on the
Education, Technical Activities Committees, and is currently chairing the AWS
Skills Competition Committee. He is also active on the Past Presidents
Committee, Headquarter Housing Committee, C5, C5C, D16 and the WEMCO Image Task
Group. He is active in the AWS Fox Valley Section as the AWS Foundation
Representative. Ed has been active on the Edison Welding Institute Board of
Trustees and on the American Institute of Steel Constructions Industry Round
Table. Ed has lectured at a number of major
institutions, including The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Colorado
School of Mines, Texas A&M, Arizona State University and the Paton Institute of
Welding, Kiev, Ukraine. He is co-author of Welding Principles & Practices
published by McGraw-Hill. He has also authored articles in a variety of
publications such as the Welding Journal and the American Machinist.
He is the AWS Foundation Representative for the AWS Fox Valley Section. He has
served on the Edison Welding Institute Board of Trustees, and on the American
Institute of Steel Construction Industry Round Table.
Jack D. Compton—Trainer
Jack
began his welding career as a Gas Tungsten Arc Welder for an aerospace company
in California to earn money for his college education.
After attending Los Angeles Pierce College in their welding program, Jack
graduated from California State University with a focus on teaching. He then
returned to Pierce College to teach welding.
Jack spent ten years in industry with Stainless Steel Products, before returning
to full-time welding training at both The College at the Canyons and William S.
Hart High School. He has spent 30 years training over 3,000 students to become
productive, efficient and safe welders.
To keep his welding skills sharp, Jack continues to weld, having done structural
welding on a number of buildings in California, and welding on complex props and
sets in the motion picture industry including the film Batman.
Jack has been an active member and leader in AWS since 1984, serving as Chairman
of the San Fernando Valley AWS Section; District 21 Director, and currently as a
Section Chair. He is also an AWS Certified Welding Inspector; a Certified
Welding Educator; and the author of Guide to Certified Welding Examinations,
which has sold over 14,000 copies. Jack has severed as an expert witness for a
number of litigations regarding all aspects of welding. Jack is dedicated to
serving the welding industry and continuing to develop the next generation of
welders.
John P. Eaton - Project Manager
John
has a diversified background with industrial experience in both welding
engineering and manufacturing management. He holds a Bachelors Degree in both
Mechanical Engineering and Welding Engineering from LeTourneau University. John
has experience in a variety of industries including power generation, defense,
electrical power distribution, construction and mining equipment, and general
fabrication. He has held positions in welding engineering, manufacturing
engineering, testing, fabrication, and general management as well as sales and
marketing. John has been an active member of the American Welding Society for
over thirty years. He has always been a champion of change and operational
improvement within each organization he has served. Throughout his career, from
an individual contributor to Director of Manufacturing Operations, John has
enjoyed the privilege of achieving improvements through people. John has held
positions of VP Manufacturing, Manager of Engineering, Plant Manager; and
Manager of Manufacturing Engineer. He always
focuses on serving the customer, and helps build strong teams within
organizations to accomplish this. John brings to Barckhoff Welding Management
and its clients an experienced blend of technical, managerial and leadership
skills.
Kenneth M. Kerluke, P. Eng.- Consulting Engineer
Ken
has over thirty years of broad welding industry experience in manufacturing,
fabrication, and quality assurance. Ken holds a Bachelors Degree in
Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia as well as a
Masters Degree in Welding Engineering from the Cranfield Institute of Technology
in the United Kingdom. Ken is a welding process specialist with experience
in all arc-welding processes. He is an active member of AWS as well as the
Canadian Standards Association, serving, on the technical committee for the CSA
W59 ‘Welded Steel Construction’. Ken has served as Director of
Technology Outreach Services for the Welding Institute of Canada, which was a
national technology center in Canada, where he was responsible for the transfer
of welding technology to Canadian companies. Ken has also provided
training and education services to the welding industry, conducted welding
failure investigations, developed welding procedures, provided technical
consulting services, and has presented expert reports in welding related
litigation. For the past eleven years Ken has served as a technical
consultant and trainer for Barckhoff Welding Management.
Don L. Lynn, P.E.- Consulting Engineer
Don
has some thirty years of diversified experience in all aspects of welding.
His technical welding experience spans shipbuilding, nuclear, sheet metal,
pressure vessel, piping, and power generation in a variety of roles from
engineering design and supervision to quality assurance. He holds a
Bachelors Degree in Welding Engineering from The Ohio State University as well as a
Masters Degree in Business Administration from Northern Kentucky University.
Don is an AWS Certified Welding Engineer and a Certified Welding Inspector, as
well as holding a diploma in International Welding Engineering. He is an
active member of AWS, serving on several committees and is a member of the
Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the American Society of Metals. He
has written technical welding articles, contributed to the AWS Welding Handbook
Chapter Committees, and has served as a technical welding expert in litigation
regarding welding issues. For the past fourteen years Don has worked as a
consulting engineer and project manager for Barckhoff Welding Management.
Phil Schmidt , P.E.-Consulting
Engineer
Phil
has more than 35 years of experience in the welding industry. His experience
includes positions as a welding engineer, manager of welding operations,
consultant and college instructor. Phil has worked in a variety of industries
including aerospace, defense, shipbuilding, nuclear, automotive, material
handling and contract manufacturing. Phil has experience with a wide range of
materials and welding processes as well as robotic welding. He is a graduate of
The Ohio State University with a Bachelor Degree in Welding Engineering; is a
registered Professional Engineer; holds a diploma in International Welding
Engineering; and is an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector as
well as a Certified Welding Supervisor. Phil also has experience in both Lean
Manufacturing and ISO certification. He is currently President of Schmidt
Equipment, Inc., a steel fabrication company in NE Ohio. Phil joined Barckhoff
Welding Management Corporation in 1999.
Richard L. Alley - Senior Sales
Executive
Dick
attended both Butler University and Indiana University/Purdue University,
Kokomo, and is a graduate of the Charleston Institute of Association Management.
Dick served the welding industry for thirty years assisting manufacturers in
their manufacturing processes giving them improved quality and higher
productivity. He has been a regional sales manager and product manager. Dick
has served on the American Welding Society’s management team on the Executive
Committee, the Board of Directors and as President. As such, he was the
catalyst in helping expand AWS’s show business nationally and internationally.
Within AWS he set up a Welding Equipment Manufacturers Committee comprised of
top-level business managers. Dick has also been on several American Welding
Society Technical committees. Through his work with AWS, Dick has had the
opportunity to travel internationally and understands global business
competition.
Robert Kerrigan—Sales Engineer
Bob
has over forty years of industrial sales and design experience, and holds
several patents for industrial sand filtering equipment. To prepare
himself for a career in industrial sales, Bob attended San Francisco City
College, Oakland College, and College of the Pacific where he studied both
engineering and business. Bob has been involved in product design,
manufacturing and sales, and has a good practical understanding of what it takes
to be an innovative, cost effective and globally competitive company. He has
been involved with companies producing industrial products such as the
centrifuges for oil and water separation, sand filtration equipment, water and
waste treatment equipment, mining, chemical, petrochemical, power generation,
pulp and paper and renewable energy equipment and systems. Many of the companies that Bob has
represented have products that are welding intensive, and he, therefore, has a
good understanding of the need
for a systematic approach to managing welding, as the Total Welding Management
System using the Barckhoff Method manages the entire welding process from design
to final product shipment. His engineering background, his business ownership,
and his relationships with top management, have equipped him with well to
present the Total Welding Management concept to presidents and CEO’s of welding
intensive companies.
Bob
Lockwood - Director
Bob
holds a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of
Minnesota and spent the first twenty years of his business career in the
electrical and electronics field, holding positions in design, operations and
executive management, which also included an assignment as President of an
overseas start-up company. Bob spent the next twenty years in the metal working
industry, holding positions in both operations and executive management
including serving as president of three different companies. Bob met Jack
when Jack was a sales manager supplying Bob’s company with motors and got to
know Jack and his techniques and philosophy of welding management, and
encouraged him to form what later became Barckhoff Welding Management. Bob
applied the principles of Total Welding Management in three separate companies,
leading to significant improvements in both quality and productivity.
Before Bob retried, he served as an executive manager of a plastic injection
molding company where he also applied the Total Welding Management principles in
the repair of complex injection molds. Bob serves as an active member of
the Board of Directors for Barckhoff Welding Management and is active on the
Board of Feed My Starving Children and assists in his church ministry for
Developmentally Disabled Adults.
Clint Vogus - Director and Business Consultant
Clint
serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Barckhoff Welding Management as
well as a business, management systems and organizational development
consultant. Clint holds a Bachelors Degree in
Engineering as well as Masters Degrees in both Business Administration and
Organization Development. He
has over twenty-five years of management experience in welding intensive
industries such as mining and construction machinery, agricultural equipment,
and electric power line maintenance equipment. He has held positions as company president,
general manager, operations manager, and manufacturing engineering manager, as
well as project manager encompassing major systems and organization change
projects. He has led business strategy development for a number of companies,
leading to improved financial performance. Clint currently teaches
Organizational Behavior at Arkansas State University in the College of Business,
as well as continuing his management consulting practice.
